June 26th, 2004 - Trinity College, Oxford
Currently, more than 2000
German doctors are working in the UK. Health systems in Britain as well
as Germany are undergoing major changes providing challenges for
employers, doctors and patients. Implementing the Working Time
Directive will affect healthcare professionals all over Europe. The
reform of the postgraduate training in both countries will change
careers dramatically. Degrees and certificates will change with
implications on bilateral recognition. Knowledge about these issues is
essential for a successful professional life.
Our aim was to bring together German doctors working in the UK and
to initiate a network. We could spark off an exchange of ideas and
experiences. We have been organising this conference in co-operation
with the Marburger Bund Stiftung in Cologne.
About 95 doctors took the opportunity to discuss their views with
our expert panel either after the talks or on Saturday afternoon. All
delegates regarded this meeting as a tremendous success.
